POINTS TO REMEMBER
ON REFUSE/RECYCLING
 |
Garbage Bags - Refuse bags are available at
local vendors. Always tie the bag shut when setting by the curb. |
 |
Summer Months - When summer approaches remember
you can use your garbage can with a Penn Township refuse bag inside. Keep the lid on and the pesky critters out. |
 | Help Us Help You - Please put your address on the recycling bin.
Remember, this bin is the property of the Township and is to stay with the
property should you relocate. If the bin is lost or stolen there is
a $5 charge for a replacement. Larger containers can be purchased for
$8. |
 |
Metal Lids - Jar lids can be placed in your recycling bin. |
 | Batteries - Batteries for cars,
trucks, motorcycles, lawn mowers and rechargeable batteries can be recycled
at Battery Warehouse located at 1201 Broadway in Hanover. |
 |
Did you know that grass clippings can help you out by cutting down on your
fertilizer costs? If you place a thin layer, no
more than 1" per week, around trees , bushes, between flowers and/or
under fences it will help to eliminate weeding, reduce watering, and feed
them with necessary nutrients. Also, if you leave the clippings on the lawn, the clippings
will break down and release nitrogen into the soil to give you healthy
grass. By the way, nitrogen is the same ingredient found in those
liquid fertilizers that you pay big bucks for and here nature gives it to
you. |
 |
Tires - Two tires can be disposed of by tying them together and attaching
a Penn Township garbage bag. No Rims allowed! |
 |
Scrap Aluminum - can be taken to
Staiman Recycling, 646-0952 or Wagaman Iron & Metal, 5 miles outside of New Oxford
going toward Gettysburg on Route 30. |
 |
Fluorescent Tubes - can be put directly into a Penn Township garbage
bag. Long tubes should just be put in whole with the top sticking out and tie bag around. DO NOT BREAK
THE TUBE! |
 | CFL
Light bulbs - can be recycled at Home Depot. |
 |
Medical Syringes - After breaking off needle, dispose of inside plastic laundry
soap container, fill, seal and place in center of Penn Township garbage bag
for collection. |
 | Recycling Center Hours - The recycling center hours are Monday through
Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:15 P.M. Saturday, 8:00 A.M. through 3:00 P.M.
Closed on Sunday. |
