TIPS FOR RECYCLING USED MOTOR OIL AND USED OIL FILTERS

The Department of Environmental Protection encourages used oil collection sites to accept used filters and incorporate them into recycling programs.

           DO'S

bullet DO recycle used motor oil.
bullet DO use a drip pan to collect as much oil as possible and prevent spills.
bullet DO puncture the dome end of the filter and allow it to hot drain for at least 12 hours prior to disposal
bullet DO pour the used oil into a clean, empty, sealable container such as a plastic milk jug.  Specialized containers can be purchased at local auto parts stores. 

           DO NOT'S

bulletDON'T dispose of these products in the trash, down the drain, or into the sewers.
bulletDON'T put used oil in a container that previously stored antifreeze or chemicals.
bulletDON'T mix used oil with any other substances
