As a result of a state mandate, Penn Township was required to implement a curbside recycling program.  In conjunction with this a refuse program was introduced to promote recycling and also place more emphasis on environmental shopping and waste reduction.

The program is simple,  pay for what you use.  Residents are required to use special Penn Township refuse bags sold at the Municipal Building or at any of its distributors for disposal of normal everyday household waste.

The Township provides each home with a  recycling bin which is the property of Penn Township and must remain with the property.  If the bin is destroyed or not available the Township will provide the resident a small bin at a cost of $5 or a large bin at the cost of $8.  If you choose, you may provide your own plastic container, however it must be marked with a  white recycling sticker, on each side of it, that is provided free of charge. The recycling white sticker are available free of charge at the Recycling Drop-off Center or at the Main office on Wayne Avenue between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Penn Township recycles the following products curbside which may be commingled:

Glass food and beverage bottles and jars only.  No window glass, drinking glass, dishes or  light bulbs.  Rinse the containers, clean & remove caps but no need to remove labels.  Do not break glass.

Plastic Bottles:    All plastic containers #1-7 are recyclable.  Crush containers and remove lids.  Neither plastic bags nor styrofoam is acceptable.  Labels need not be removed.

Aluminum, Steel, Empty Paint Cans, Aerosol Cans, Bimetal Cans:     No foil, TV trays, pie plates, siding or scrap metal.  Cans can be crushed, labels need not be removed, no detached lids in recycling container due to the safety hazard.

Recycling Drop Off Center

Newsprint, Junk Mail, Magazines, Corrugated Cardboard: Newsprint, junk mail (no window envelopes), and magazines can be bundled in brown grocery bags.   Corrugated cardboard must be broken down and bundled with twine.  Drop off center behind Municipal Building,  20 Wayne Avenue, M-F 8-4:30, Saturday 8-3.  Please,  do not put in plastic bags.
